2010 Track Season

Coaching News: Ms. Moe and Mr. Golden will be coaching the Track with Mr. Anderson and Mr. Jensen this year. We look forward to all of the positive energy they'll bring to the team. Lets shoot for a record numbers of athletes.

I caught Ms. Moe and some student/athletes in her English class today.

Here's Mr. Golden with student/athletes in history.

I also found these two student/athletes sporting track team wear.

As wear gearing up the season again, don't forget that it's never too early to start getting in shape. Look for sign-up information in March. The season will start the first half of April.

Get your sports physicals now if you need them.
1.Physical
2.District 199 Eligibility Form
3.$80 Fee Checks can be made out to ISD 199. Put Track and athletes name in the memo portion. (Upon request of parent this fee can be reduced. We do not any student excluded based on finances.)
4.Team rules contract. See Below.

1. Being a member of Simley’s Track team is an honor and a privilege. It is hard work but most of all lots of fun. All athletes need to demonstrate a positive attitude toward coaches, teammates, and officials. NO form of insubordination, hazing or harassment will be tolerated! Positive means healthy, healthy means successful. Let’s have fun and be people orientated. Our team is as good as we make it.

2. Practice begins at 2:45. Everyone needs to be on the track doing their 800 warm up. It doesn’t matter if you’re a sprinter, long distance runner, and/or a field event athlete. Stretching should be done by 3:00. After stretching we will do team activity and then split up when goals are discussed. Do not be late. Daily attendance will be taken. Practice will be done by 4:15 on a typical day. We need to use all available time for our workouts.

3. If you miss a practice or a meet, you must have an excuse signed by your parent or a pass from a teacher. Three unexcused absences will result in being dismissed from the team. An unexcused absence will make you ineligible to compete in the next meet. Detention will be an automatic unexcused absence. Baby-sitting or other work is not an excuse for missing meets or practices.

4. Meet Expectations. All athletes need to be prepared for their events. If you sign up for certain events you are responsible for participating in those specific events and reporting to them on time! You are encouraged to cheer on all other athletes from Inver Grove Heights during the entire meet. You are expected to stay for the entire meet (even after your events) and strongly recommended to ride the bus home with the teammates. If for some reason you need to leave the meet early, you must have a parent come and sign you out with a coach. You are NOT allowed to leave with anyone but your own parents.

5. Practices are a time to improve your fitness level and develop skills. All team members are expected to remain around the track at all times. You must ask permission from a coach to use the bathroom, go to a locker, or leave practice for any reason. Friends do not belong at practices unless they are on the team. On days that we do field events, you HAVE to try at least one field event, there will be NO laying around during practice! The locker rooms will be locked during practice. If you need to leave early you must bring everything you need with you. You will not be let back into the locker room until the end of practice.

6. You live in Minnesota! Anticipate snow, cold, wind or rain everyday. Be prepared to add or remove layers of clothing to stay comfortable. Improper clothing will result in an unexcused absence and being unable to practice. When we go to the meet, you must be dressed appropriately for the weather. If not, you will NOT be allowed to board the bus. Possible clothing includes hats, jackets, thermal socks, gloves/mittens, sweat pants, long underwear, tights, wind proof shell and running shoes (if it’s warm enough out, shorts and t-shirts are okay).

7. Academics! Are at the core of your education experience. All athletes must be making good behavior and academic choices to stay active on the team.

8. If there is a situation where an athlete is acting inappropriately the following discipline system will be used:
First offense, the athlete will receive a verbal warning.
Second offense of the same nature, the athlete will not be able to participate in the next event or competition.
Third offense, the athlete will be removed from the team. In situations of continuous or frequently occurring inappropriate behavior, the coaches will take action to remove the athlete from the team without offering multiple warnings.

*Please check the website(http://ighmiddleschooltrack.blogspot.com/) frequently for updates. Please check before you call.

Thank you very much,

Middle School Track and Field Coaches
Ms Jennifer Moe, Mr. Heath Anderson, Mr. Kevin Jensen, Mr. Kyle Golden.

By signing this contract, you agree with all expectations/rules for the 2008 Simley Track season and also approve your picture or video to be used by track for our website.

April 17th Time Trials

Here are a few pictures of the athletes running fast and hanging-out. We are proud of the teams' performance, effort and attitude. In addition to some huge gains on the track, students showed class off the track. Kudos to our leaders who even picked up the trash on the field without being asked. Go Spartans.

Spring Break Work-Out Schedule

IGH Track/Field Spring Break Work-out Record.

Athletes have had four good days of work-outs this week. The coaches have been impressed with student effort, attitude and ability. Our late spring break gives us a week off from practice at a key time in the season. With this in mind we would like all athletes to maintain our work and to build fitness over spring break.
Safety needs and family commitments can make formal workout schedules difficult to accomplish. However, some type of work-out can be done daily.
Please keep a record of what you do each day over break. We would like to see an hour if possible. Running, Biking, Basketball or any other good cardiovascular workout is best. Don’t forget a guardian signature at the bottom. These should be returned on Monday the 13th of April.

Dress For Practice

It looks like we can practice outside the rest of the week. Check out the forecast. Please help your athlete dress for the weather. Good gear doesn't need to be expensive. Simple nylon warm ups with layering underneath will block the wind, provide warmth and offer some moisture protection. A pair of thin gloves and a stocking hat are also great to have. Athletes can always remove layers to stay comfortable.

Monday, March 30, 2009

No practice Tuesday 3-31

We will be canceling practice on Tuesday so that coaches/teachers can attend a training session after school for MCA-II testing.

First Day of Practice

Cloudy Windy and 45 degrees, but still a fine group of athletes. We look forward to an outstanding season. Easy 1600M run.

Putting the mile in smile.

Team stretch at the start of practice.

Meet the Coaches

Coach Mindy Mair

I grew up in Blue Earth, MN. I went to college at the University of Wisconsin, LaCrosse and pursued my degree as an Elementary Education Teacher with a middle school math emphasis. Three years ago I came to Inver Grove Heights where I am teaching Math Essentials 7 & 8 and Pre Algebra. I have been a varsity volleyball coach at Fairmont, MN and coached one year as an 8th grade volleyball and 2 as Junior Varsity Volleyball at Simley. I also was a head track coach at Granada and a middle school track coach at our School. I played both sports all through high school and played volleyball in college and coached track in college. I am looking forward to a great middle school track season!

Coach Michel Wolf

My name is Michel Paul Wolf, and I grew up in Rock Falls, Illinois where I attended Monmouth College, 4 year liberal arts school and pursued a degree in Elementary Education grades 1-6, Learning Disabilities k-12, Mild-to-Moderately Handicapped, and Emotional-Behavior Disorders. I arrived in MN in 1992 and have called it my home since. I have coached 3 sports from 1992- 2001 til I had my son- Connor. I coached the boys middle school soccer team this past fall and loved being back in the coaching saddle. I have held the Head Girls Track and Field coach for over 9 years at Simley High School and look very forward to bringing my expertise to the middle school.

During my college years of Track and Field, I was 4 time defending champion in the 400m Intermediate hurdles and 110m High Hurdles and a two-time NCAA Division III qualifier in the 400m Hurdles and place 10th and 7th in the nation during 1981 and 1982 season respectively.

I still hold some relay records back in H.S. that still remain to be untouched. My specialty is relays, sprints, hurdles, and long & triple jump. Again, I hope to interest/influence some middle students into a healthy sport of which I had participated since 4th grade up until I graduated from college and enjoyed so much.

Coach Heath Anderson

After graduating from Moorhead High School, I attended the University of Minnesota Moorhead for my undergraduate work earning teaching licensure in 7-12 English and in k-12 English as a Second Language. I later completed my Masters of Arts degree in curriculum and instruction with an emphasis on educational equity. . I have three years of teaching experience in Taipei Taiwan in addition to my years of teaching at both the high school and middle school level in IGH.
In high School, I was competitive in track and football. At the U of M Moorhead I competed in long and triple jump. I also played several seasons of club-side Rugby with North Dakota State University.

My coaching experiences include two years of varsity track at Moorhead High, 11 years of Middle School track and 7 years of Varsity Nordic skiing. To a lesser degree I have coached hockey, basketball, Special Olympic Alpine Skiing and football.

I look forward to working with our Middle School track athletes this year. Track is a wonderful sport where personal best performance is what makes champions. With hard work every athlete can be proud of their performance

Coach Kevin Jensen
I've coached middle school track here for 4 years
Middle school wrestling for 10 yrs.
I was a varsity coach for track 2 years and many years as an assistant varsity track coach.
I was a head wrestling coach for many years at a previous school.
I teach 9th grade math in the high school.
