Team Rules
1. Being a member of Simley’s Track team is an honor and a privilege. It is hard work but most of all lots of fun. All athletes need to demonstrate a positive attitude toward coaches, teammates, and officials. NO form of insubordination, hazing or harassment will be tolerated! Positive means healthy, healthy means successful. Let’s have fun and be people orientated. Our team is as good as we make it.

2. Practice begins at 2:45. Everyone needs to be on the track doing their 800 warm up. It doesn’t matter if you’re a sprinter, long distance runner, and/or a field event athlete. Stretching should be done by 3:00. After stretching we will do team activity and then split up when goals are discussed. Do not be late. Daily attendance will be taken. Practice will be done by 4:15 on a typical day. We need to use all available time for our workouts.

3. If you miss a practice or a meet, you must have an excuse signed by your parent or a pass from a teacher. Three unexcused absences will result in being dismissed from the team. An unexcused absence will make you ineligible to compete in the next meet. Detention will be an automatic unexcused absence. Baby-sitting or other work is not an excuse for missing meets or practices.

4. Meet Expectations. All athletes need to be prepared for their events. If you sign up for certain events you are responsible for participating in those specific events and reporting to them on time! You are encouraged to cheer on all other athletes from Inver Grove Heights during the entire meet. You are expected to stay for the entire meet (even after your events) and strongly recommended to ride the bus home with the teammates. If for some reason you need to leave the meet early, you must have a parent come and sign you out with a coach. You are NOT allowed to leave with anyone but your own parents.

5. Practices are a time to improve your fitness level and develop skills. All team members are expected to remain around the track at all times. You must ask permission from a coach to use the bathroom, go to a locker, or leave practice for any reason. Friends do not belong at practices unless they are on the team. On days that we do field events, you HAVE to try at least one field event, there will be NO laying around during practice! The locker rooms will be locked during practice. If you need to leave early you must bring everything you need with you. You will not be let back into the locker room until the end of practice.

6. You live in Minnesota! Anticipate snow, cold, wind or rain everyday. Be prepared to add or remove layers of clothing to stay comfortable. Improper clothing will result in an unexcused absence and being unable to practice. When we go to the meet, you must be dressed appropriately for the weather. If not, you will NOT be allowed to board the bus. Possible clothing includes hats, jackets, thermal socks, gloves/mittens, sweat pants, long underwear, tights, wind proof shell and running shoes (if it’s warm enough out, shorts and t-shirts are okay).

7. Academics! Are at the core of your education experience. All athletes must be making good behavior and academic choices to stay active on the team.

8. If there is a situation where an athlete is acting inappropriately the following discipline system will be used:
First offense, the athlete will receive a verbal warning.
Second offense of the same nature, the athlete will not be able to participate in the next event or competition.
Third offense, the athlete will be removed from the team. In situations of continuous or frequently occurring inappropriate behavior, the coaches will take action to remove the athlete from the team without offering multiple warnings.

*Please check the website(http://ighmiddleschooltrack.blogspot.com/) frequently for updates. Please check before you call.

Thank you very much,

Middle School Track and Field Coaches
Ms Jennifer Moe, Mr. Heath Anderson, Mr. Kevin Jensen, Mr. Kyle Golden.

By signing this contract, you agree with all expectations/rules for the 2011 Simley Track season and also approve your picture or video to be used by track for our website.

May 19 @ Tartan High School the Location for the MS Girls' Conference race.

The girls' season is winding down. Practice today included some silly team building activities and some freeze pops. We're off for our DQ run tomorrow, and have our conference meet on Wed.

Let's work together to make sure the athletes are dressed for the weather. It looks like sun-screen will me needed more than rain gear, but keep an eye on the forecast.

Boys Meet Postponed Due to Weather

We are re-scheduled for May 17th.

May 13th Conference Meet @ Mahtomedi

This year our Boys' Conference Meet conflicts with the Middle School's Band and Choir Concert. We understand that this concert is an important part of students' academics, and do want the boys to make great music back at school.

With this said, we are still doing our best to field a competitive team for our track meet. It would be great if some boys could attend part of the meet before the concert. We also ask that any boy not performing at the concert step-up and help the team out until the end of the meet.

The weather looks cool and rainy. Please double check that your athlete has proper clothing to be outside in the weather. A rain poncho or other rain gear would be very helpful. We want warm, comfortable kids.

The Weather make-up day is May 17th, but we have historically run this meet despite cool temperatures and rain.

Directions from the South:
Take 35W or 35E North to Hwy 36 East to Hilton Trail North. Take a left on Hilton to 75th. Take a right on 75th and the school will be on your left.

Just Added, May 10th Meet at Mahtomedi with a 4:15 start time

Thanks to Pam Klinkhammer at Mahtomedi and Mr. O'Donnell, we are able to get one more meet in before the conference championships. Mahtomedi's coaches will be running the meet, and will be short meet workers. We would love to have any parent volunteers assist with events. Please let coaches know if you can help.

We realize this is a new and late addition to the schedule, thus we understand if students have prior commitments.

May 6th @ North High School with Mahtomedi, So. St. Paul and John Glen.

We're in the middle of another week of good practices, and looking forward to our meet on Thursday.

!Important! Reminder about Middle School Track Team Meets from our team rules sheet. We had two problems we are looking to solve from our last away meet. First, we needed to put a 6th grader in the 8th grade mile relay after an 8th grader hurt her ankle high jumping. Too many 8th graders left before the end of the meet, so we were short of athletes. More importantly two athletes left without checking-out with a coach. We take our responsibilities with your children seriously, and worry when we don't know where kids are. Both missing kids were with their parents. Please keep coaches informed.

Our rules contract states the following:
Meet Expectations. All athletes need to be prepared for their events. If you sign up for certain events you are responsible for participating in those specific events and reporting to them on time! You are encouraged to cheer on all other athletes from Inver Grove Heights during the entire meet.
