April 22nd @ Sibley with Maplewood and Skyview.

We've had some outstanding practices this week and look forward to our meet on Thursday. I've included a map to the meet below. It may be expanded or changed to a satellite image from the blog page.

The weather looks good for the meet, but a fairly strong NE breeze is part of the current forecast for Thursday. Please check that your athlete has warm-up clothes and maybe a windbreaker. Sun screen is worth wearing at this time of the year too. The sun's intensity is the same as in August.

A note on injuries. Many younger athletes have trouble telling the difference between being a bit sore and being injured. Some minor aches and pains are to be expected. With this said, we will error on the side of caution. If any student can't practice because of an injury, we will hold them out of competition for the next meet.

This meet will include all field events. As a reminder we ask that all athletes stay to support their team and to be available for substitutions until the end of the meet.

April 14th @ Mahotomedi Time Trial meet with Sibley and Richfield.

We have an outstanding group out for track, and are looking forward to our first meet on Wed. This is a time-trail format with a limited number of running events. There are no relays or field events.

The coaches are keeping an eye on the weather. Currently it looks like it will be in the low 70's with a chance of rain. We will likely compete in rain, unless there is lightning. Please have your student bring rain gear with them to the meet.

We assigned uniforms to athletes today. But will hold them until all paperwork is turned in. Please check to be sure registrations, fees, physicals, 199 forms and team rules sheets are complete. Students are ineligible without their paperwork in.

Please make sure all paperwork is in.
1.Physical
2.District 199 Eligibility Form
3.$80 Fee Checks can be made out to ISD 199. Put Track and athletes name in the memo portion. (Upon request of parent this fee can be reduced. We do not any student excluded based on finances.)

The Team

The students had another great day of practice. The coaches heard a few groans of soreness from some athletes today. A little of this is to be expected.

Here's what they looked like by grade level at the end of practice. Click on the image to expand it.

April 6th Practice Canceled

Today's practice has been canceled, so coaches, who are all teachers in the district, could attend a training on up-coming MCA testing. Math testing will be next week and reading testing will be the following week. Please stress the importance of these tests with your students. A good night sleep and a healthy breakfast help both testing and athletic performances.

Please make sure all paperwork is in.

Great First Practice

Record numbers of students attended our first practice of the season. We have c.120 boys and girls out this year. The coaches were all impressed by the teams effort and attitude. Keep up the good work.

Practices this week will be designed to ease students into running. We will use slow distance and 75% speed for sprints. Some of our more fit athletes may need an extra run evenings or weekends.

Please remember to dress for the ever changing spring weather. It's hard to have fun when you're cold.
