211 vs 212 degrees

The Middle School Track Team is working to help student athletes become better at everything they do. We have been talking about the difference a little extra effort can make. We are using the metaphor of 211 degree water just being hot while 212 degree water can produce steam. Steam can power trains and produce electricity. Today in practice we had 14 athletes step up and show 212 degree effort by running an extra optional 400 at the end of practice. Ask if you student was part of this group. As a disclaimer we have no relationship with the producers of this video, nor do we have knowledge of products beyond what is shown in this video. Just a good metaphor.

A Special H20 Walk for Life Practice on Thursday April 26th.

Our track team will be joining the Simley International Club, and the Simley Spanish Club to participate in an H20 Walk for Life on our home track this week.  Our goal is to provide our athletes a chance to give back.  We hope to raise both awareness and money to build wells in third world nations. Here's a link to our page.
Practice is mandatory and donations are encouraged.

Students will be walking/running 3 miles taking turns carrying a jug of water to understand what other kids there age do instead of attending school.

The Issue

There is an urgent need for clean water, sanitation, and hygiene in schools and communities around the world. Consider these facts:
  • Every 15 seconds a child dies from lack of access to clean water.
  • Women and children in many communities spend up to 60 percent of each day walking to collect water.
  • 4,500 children die each day due to unsafe water and a lack of basic sanitation.
  • Without access to a latrine, many girls stop going to school once they reach puberty.

You are encouraged to cheer on all other athletes from Inver Grove Heights during the entire meet. You are expected to stay for the entire meet (even after your events) and strongly recommended to ride the bus home with the teammates. If for some reason you need to leave the meet early, you must have a parent come and sign you out with a coach. You are NOT allowed to leave with anyone but your own parents. The locker room will not be open until after home meets. If for some reason you need to leave a home meet early, you must bring everything you need to bring home out to the track. Custodians will not open up locker rooms.

You live in Minnesota! Anticipate snow, cold, wind or rain everyday. Be prepared to add or remove layers of clothing to stay comfortable. When we go to the meet, you must be dressed appropriately for the weather. If not, you will NOT be allowed to board the bus.
